The 42nd running of the Irish Derby was held on Wednesday 26th June 1907 over 1 mile 4 furlongs of The Curragh. Subscriptions were 15 sovereigns with a pot of 1000 sovereigns, 150 sovereigns to the second and 50 sovereigns to the third. The winner was owned and bred by Mr Richard Croker, trained by James Allen and ridden by William Bullock. The winner won by a easy 4 lengths in 2 minutes 51.5 seconds, with 3 lengths between second and third.

OWNER PROFILE
Richard Welstead Croker, son of Eyre Coote Croker and Frances Croker (nee Welstead) was born on 24th November 1843 in Ballyva and within 2 years was taken to the USA aboard Henry Clay primarily to avoid a potential potato famine in Ireland. He became a prominent politician in America and leader of the famous New York Tammany Hall. In the USA he was able to enjoy his chosen sport of horse racing and then returned to the UK to continue to pursue the sport. His most famous horse was English Derby winner Orby (SR 2056) who then went on to become the first horse to complete the English/Irish Derby double when landing the Irish Derby by an easy 4 lengths at the prohibitive odds of 10/1 on favourite. Croker continued to enjoy racing success, but died on 29th April 1922 in Ireland.
